Agroforestry Workshop
At Chukkimane, we introduce our guests to the practice of Agroforestry, a traditional practice of integrating trees with crops and/or animals.
Agroforestry is gaining increasing recognition as a way to restore degraded sloping lands, contribute to food security and to achieve economic development. The land at Chukkimane was bare and sloping initially, but practicing agroforestry has completely transformed the landscape through water management, eco-sustainability as well as conserving the biodiversity of the region.
Many birds have nested near Chukki Mane because of its attractive environment. One can find over a 100 variety of trees such as Neem, Sacred fig, Sal, Asna, Mango, Coconut, Banyan, Agar, Peepal Tree, Amla Plant, Brahmi, Turmeric Plant, Jackfruit, Pomegranate, Indian Gooseberry, among others. Agroforestry can greatly help transform landscapes where trees are a keystone of productivity and thus deliver multiple benefits for human beings and ecosystems alike.
What is Permaculture?
By observing natural ecosystems, we can learn to imitate Nature and create constructed ecosystems that are productive and non-polluting.
A large number of migratory birds flock to Chukki Mane every year to nest and breed, offering rare and unique sights that are otherwise hard to find. Whether you are an avid bird watcher or are simply mesmerized by the grace and beauty of these winged creatures, the bird watching experience here is truly unforgettable.
