Spot-billed Duck, also called Grey Duck, this bird is found in the wetlands of India. Large dark brown duck with scaly-pattern plumage. Bill is black with yellow, orange spot on the base of bill. Its size is 60 cm.Has buff face with black stripe through eyes to crown, black-brown crown, brown, gray and black overall mottling, blue speculum tipped in white which shows a white wing spot on folded wing.
Habitat
Common in native Asia, found in lakes, rivers, ponds, and, freshwater marshes.
Breeding / Nesting
It nests on the ground in vegetation near water, and lays 8-14 eggs.
Food
Spot-billed ducks feed by dabbling for plant food – mostly in the evening or at night
Ducks generally feed on larvae and pupae usually found under rocks, aquatic animals, plant material, seeds, small fish, snails and crabs.
